CQC Care Home Ratings by Local Authority
Of the 7,798 care homes in England holding a current CQC rating in the CareFinder database, 85% are rated Good or Outstanding and 5.7% are rated Outstanding. By region, the share ranges from 91.8% in the South West to 81.6% in the North West.
Method. Every open care home in England in the CareFinder database was assigned to the council area that contains its postcode (the authority responsible for adult social care there), and its current overall CQC rating counted. Percentages use the number of RATED homes in that area as the denominator, not the number of homes, because an unrated home is not evidence either way.
Sample. 7,798 rated homes across 137 local authority areas with at least 10 homes each.
Excluded. Homes that have closed or been deregistered, homes with no current rating, and areas with fewer than 10 homes. Scottish services are excluded from rating tables because the Care Inspectorate grades on a different six-point scale.
